Amnesty International Leeds group would like to express its gratitude to the Leeds Quakers for organising the following series of musical and theatre performances. The details on this page are taken from their handout:
Welcome to the 2006 Amnesty Series at Rawdon´s 17th century Quaker Meeting House. We invite you to join us in a feast of music and theatre.
Featuring young musicians at the beginning of their careers and top professionals from Opera North; a pre-tour production of the “The Tempest”, on the lawn, from the Theatre of the Dales Company; an outstanding folk partnership from Ilkley called O´Donnell and Bird and familiar favourites Arioso, Heather and Rowland Moseley and the Kenwood-Herriott Duo.
Admission is free with a voluntary collection, all of which is passed on to Amnesty International for their work in supporting the cause of human rights around the world
This outstanding baroque ensemble delights us once more with a choice of vocal and instrument offerings.
We welcome a return from Elizabeth Kenwood (Oboe, oboe d´amore, cor anglais) and Richard Herriott (composer, piano) - following their recent tour of Eastern Europe - who will dazzle us once more with a varied and virtuoso performance of music from the 17th to the 21st centuries.
Everyone who remembers last year´s performance by this exciting young cello and piano duo will know that here is a concert not to be missed.
Shakespeare´s enchanting late romance is presented (on the lawn, if weather permits, so come prepared!) by the Theatre of the Dales company in a wonderful, pre-tour production full of magic, music and song.
We are thrilled that we have been able to persuade Mairead O´Donnell and Lorna Bird - one of the region´s finest folk exports who play to sell-out audiences all over the UK and abroad with their remarkable, driving, melodic, crafted and polished performances - to play and sing in our Amnesty series. For one night only!
On how we missed them last year! But this small combo from Opera North returns to fill our house with their wonderful music and yourselves. Come early if you want a seat.
These talented young singers impressed us all last year, and many of you asked for a return visit. Please see this flyer for more details.
